Ice Nucleation in Hollow Silica Spheres
14. December 2016
Today our joint publication with Prof. Floudas from the Max-Planck-Institute for polymer research appeared in the Journal of Physical Chemistry B. Pia Ruckdeschel and Yang Yao worked together to study the nucleation of ice inside and outside of monodisperse hollow silica spheres. Quite remarkably, ice nucleates inside the hollow spheres only at strongly undercooled temperatures due to the lack of heterogeneous nucleation sites.
